After a draw held on September 30, 2023, the Powerball jackpot crossed the jaw-dropping $1 billion mark. This was after the jackpot went unclaimed to reach $1.04 billion, with a cash value of $478.2 million for the next draw on Monday night.

$1.04 Billion Prize Up for Grabs After Latest Powerball Draw

No ticket had all six numbers in the Powerball draw on Saturday. The winning numbers were 19, 30, 37, 44, 46 (white balls) and 22 (red Powerball). Also, the Power Play multiplier was 2X.

But the draw presented a joyous moment for more than 2.5 million tickets in the United States. Of this astonishing number, five tickets matched all five white balls to win $1 million each.

Two other tickets, sold in Indiana and North Carolina, had the same white ball combination and earned $2 million with the Power Play feature, which costs an extra $1 per play. Other significant wins included 55 tickets that won $50,000 each and nine tickets that won $100,000 each.

A Powerball grand prize was last won on July 19, when a winning ticket in California had the same numbers for all five white and red balls, netting a $1.08 billion jackpot. Since then, no one has won the jackpot for 32 consecutive drawings.

This reward is the second-largest jackpot in the lottery game this year and the fourth-largest in the entire history of the lottery game. Edwin Castro, a former public school student from California, United States, holds the record for the highest Powerball win after winning $2 billion late last year.

If a lucky Powerball player wins the jackpot on Monday, they will have these two options:

  • Take a prize worth an estimated $1.04 million in annuitized payments
  • Take a lump sum estimated at $478.2 million

In the former case, the lottery operator says the player will get an immediate payment and then 29 yearly payments that will keep increasing by 5%. The estimations for the two options are not inclusive of taxes.

A Powerball ticket costs $2 and is available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Drawings are televised live from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 EST. Players can also stream the lottery draw on the Powerball.com website.
